I have a hound that's good at treeing but very tight on track does anyone know how you can get them to open up or is that something that's just a trait in their bloodline

A lot of young hounds I have started were tight on track but got more open as they progressed. But I have also seen hounds that got 3-4 years old and tightened up when they realized they could catch more coon and tree them quicker if they shut up.
You cant do anything to make them open more, except sometimes running them with a wide open track dog will get them to open more...

In the hounds that I have the males will be a little tight on a cold or a lay up coon and the females will open when they smell and can work the trail. I'ts all about Genes. I have tried to hunt them with a trail hound that opens every step and it don't work. They will just tiptoe past them and tree ahead of them.

I'm going to say it's in the hound. I had an old female that would only open 3 times on a 400 yard track (this is just an example.) She treed quick & made more trees though. But I'm a guy that likes to hear the hounds on track & in tree. I kept her because I've never had a hound that minded like her. She was a dream to hunt with!! I now have a male that is out of the same blood as she was & he's what I call a wide open hound. I also have a young gyp that's 2 & she's fairly hush mouth but she's getting more vocal each time I take her out.

Anyone know any tight mouthed english lines in the KY, WV, OH area? I like 'em a little on the quiet side. Only want to hear a nice long bawl when they've got something treed.
