Not too cold anytime this time of year.... The rut is on! Treed one Monday night and it was around 15 degrees, good track too.

I imagine what is considered cold depends on where you live. The coldest I've hunted is in 7 below, and I kept my dog REAL close. If it's cold enough that I won't have fun then I don't take my dog out, AND if it's cold enough that if my dog breaks through ice he could quickly die from hypothermia, then I don't go. I imagine if it's as cold as it will get for an area the coon won't be out as much, which at least for Montana, means it has to be pretty darn cold!

I never seem to have a lot of luck anytime it gets below 20 or so here in Oklahoma. I just end up treeing in a bunch of den trees.

up here the coldest night ive had success started at 10 and got down to -5 and we treed coon but there was not much trailing. i think they either winded them in the tree or they were very close to the tree.
much below 10 to 15 degrees seems like the coon stay pretty close to home.
around here when it gets below that 10 degree mark its nine times out of ten a den tree and its to cold for climbing, plus we have that wind that never quits

25° or below is my cut off. Not sure why. Guess it really just depends on wind chill too. I havnt been since monday. Might go tomorrow but suppose to be 15+mph winds and some snow.
