I got a young redtick coon hound and i have a old lion hound and i wanna switch the redtick to a lion hound, any hints to help me????

find a lion [fresh] track and put her on it.

I did that today in the snow but she got distracted and followed the other dog that wouldn't even track it.

No problem; Just put her with a dog that will trail!!!!!

NEVER, put a young dog out with another young dog or even an older dog thats not any good.

Living in Co. you shouldn't have any trouble,there is a Gov Hunter in Criag Co ,Van Johnson,Lion Tracker in the south,lot lion hunters there,if nothing just buy you a grade dog to get yours started.

go to Big Game Houndman.com register and ask there if any hounds for sale.make sure you get a trial before you buy.the guy in Craig is Paco Jack lot of dogs.This is a coon hunting forum BigGamehoundsmen is a lion and bear forum,
Lot guys on there sells good dogs,Posey,Paco jack, Jeff Allen,
that is a rough sport you going have to be tuff,Join that forum and just watch it for a few days. let me know what you done. where do you live in Colo.???

All of my hounds run coon and lions. I have them for hunting lions, but running coon sure keeps em in shape. And, most dogs that can trail a coon can dang sure run a lion.

I keep my young lion hounds on a leash to the first tree even if I'm huntin them with a seasoned lion dog. I had a dead broke, naturally straight, rockstar of a coondog that I turned out on a lion track and apparently the sight of fast game was too much of a tempatation for him and he left the track after some deer. Never had him run any junk in the coon woods, but.....Anyhow he was also ten months old at the time. Ran his first lion alone at a year old.
