 Post subject: training yote hounds

i just got a couple of pups and i would like to start running yotes but dont know where to start. i have trained some decent coon hounds, just unsure of where to start on the yotes

so no one knows how to start pups on coyotes, or has any input. should i start them on coons

how would i go about looking for a training pen, i have heard of them but not sure where to look or how to ask other than here. i have coon hunted quite a bit but none of my buddies run yotes, or know anybody that does

id just trap one, and let it out with the pups and an older dog or two that you know will kill one,...

Best way would always be to run them with an older broke hound. If you get them started/ running in a pen they tend to turn into more of pen dogs. They run with their head up and over run the track often. Best way to get them to hunt, run and use their nose (since I would guess they will be outside hounds more so than pen dogs) is to run them at night and often by doing this they will have to use their nose and usually the coyote wont get out of the country to far. Try to find some areas that hold a few coyotes and less off game.

i dont know if it is legal but trapp a yote in one of big live traps and find some one with a bout a 10 acre deer pen. take a old dog and a pup and turn it loose on the yote.
