Hello, I had a question I thought you guys can answer for me. I got a couple black and tans running and treeing coon. What would you have to do to start them on bear, if I ever decided to do this? I had a bear on a trail cam from this morning around 6:45, if I got a permit i thought it would be fun to run it. I have a tanned bear hide, would this be useful in the future??? Thanks Brian

If they are already running and treeing on there own, i would say take them in there when the bear is feeding so the scent will be hot, and turn em loose. or just find a pretty fresh track, make sure wich way the bear was going so you don't turn them on the back track. i have started many bear dogs from coon dogs. i have seen VERY few coon dogs that wouldnt run a bear, broke or not. probably wouldnt hurt to find a buddy that has one started to put in front of yours, but if not just take them in there and turn them on it, the worst thing that could happen is they don't run it.
