Being Ready

I have met so many people who say they are ready to go to heaven. It seems that some of these people are not bearing good fruit. Their language and their actions are not good fruit but they are like thorns and thistles. I am not judging anyone but God’s word will judge each of us.

Matthew 7: 16-21
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

As we have to keep our hunting lights charged daily to be ready to go hunting and to be able to see the right path in the woods, so it is also with our spiritual light. We need to charge our spirits daily with the Word of God, with the Holy Spirit and with prayer.

We certainly do not want to get deep into the journey and have our lights go out before we make it home.

Matthew 25: 1:13
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Just as we start out in the woods at night, we really don’t know how far we will have to go, or what kind of things we might encounter along the way. But if we have our lights charged we will be able to make it.

We never know when our time is coming, but we need to be ready. We need to confess our failings to Jesus and keep our spiritual light charged and we will be able to make it home to heaven.

We will be driving 120 miles round trip this evening to minister in church tonight. Please keep us in your prayers.

Thank you so much for reading these mini-sermons.
