Matthew 4:4

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

We live in Northwest Florida where the Apalachicola National Forest is located. Last October Hurricane Michael wreaked havoc on our area, destroying a lot of the forest. Bushes that produce berries were crushed by the fallen trees. Food supplies for the forest animals were low.

One night my wife looked out the sliding glass door in the kitchen to see a poor raccoon looking into the house. He appeared to not have had a lot to eat. We put out cat food for him. After that the raccoon came every morning looking for food. He started coming 3 times a day to eat. As the weeks went by he began to regain his weight and the scars began to heal.

The Bible tells us that we don’t live only by the physical bread which sustains us in our body but we must have spiritual bread (the Word of God) to grow spiritually.

Matthew 4:4

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

John 1:14 tells us that Jesus is the Word of God and was made flesh and lived here on earth.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Jesus is the spiritual bread that we must have.

John 6:48 - 51
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Jesus gave his flesh by dying on the cross so that everyone in the world could have life by accepting him.

When Roy (the raccoon) tasted that first bite of cat food, it was good to him. He kept coming back for more and more. The more he ate, the healthier he became and his scars healed. When we accept Jesus, we must keep going back to Him. The more of Him we accept, the more we grow spiritually and the scars of our past will heal.

Thanks for reading and God bless you,

Don
