my redbone got a facial from a skunk last night. must not have been a direct hit because the odor is light & is on his face only. gave him a good cleaning this morning but he's still rubbing his face on the ground & whining. i'm thinking he's got some residue up in his nose. any suggestions? i did put some baking soda & water in a turkey baster & gave each nostril a gentle douche.

i found that recipe online & used it too. all is well now. we've recently fenced our 1/2 acre yard. before he was tethered when outside. i'd told the wife that we still need to tether him at night. 1 reason is that i do not want to have to go out & retrieve him if he's barking at the back line. the other is because he does chase any critters he sees. i think she'a a believer now. 3 weeks ago i happened to be out with him & the only reason he did not get sprayed then was because his tether stopped him. he was within 2 ' & i'm amazed that he did not get sprayed that night. i pulled him back with the tether. i live trap & drown every skunk i can. they tap on my beehives at night & eat the bees when they come out. if left alone they can wipe out a hive in a couple of weeks.
