How much should I feed my 2 month 1 wk old Bluetick Puppie? I have gone to tons of web sites and they all say something different. I asked my vet and she said to give him as much as he can eat in 15 min 3 times a day. I did it yesterday and he at ALOT of food. For some reason I dont think that is right at all. Some web pages say 2 cups in the morning and 2 at night. I feed him half science diet puppie food and half purina puppie chow. Does that sound right or no. Its been bothering me cause I know my dog will eat as long as food is in front of him. I by no means want to over feed him. :?: Please Let me know what you think cause I want to solve it and start doing this right as soon as possible. Also what is your take on bones. My dad says NO bones until they are 1 year old but some people say it doesnt matter as long as it is not a chicken or pork bone. Thanks for the help.

Read the back of your dog food bag for the recommended amount.

I would feed one brand instead of two.

As for bones, I give these to my pups and big dogs:

There are bones inside after they chew them down. Never had an issue with them and been giving natural bones to my dogs and pups for years.

All our dogs have always had food available 24/7. They get used to it being there all the time and eat just enough to stay at a decent weight. There are many ways of feeding. Use the method that works best for you and keeps the pup healthy.

thanks for all the help. i am just going to stick to the purina puppy chow and i went to their web site and looked up the amount they recomend. it says anywhere from about 2 cups to 4 and to just judge by the way he is looking. they said to feed him 3 times a day when he is a young puppy like he is and 2 times a day in a couple of months. I appreciate all the help though. i dont know where i can get those pig feet at. i have never seen any of those at any stores around here and i dont hunt pig enough.

The bag should tell you how much to feed a pup depending on its age and weight. If you leave food out all the time, some dogs will work well with that and some it seems like will eat until they explode. I'd stick with the bag recommendations until he gets a bit older, then try leaving him food all the time. If you have other dogs around it may make him gobble down all his food too.

Post subject:  How much food do you feed per day?

I have an almost 4 month old Bluetick and I've been feeding her what the dog food bag recommends. 2 cups daily. But the guy I got her from said I should be feeding her at least 4 cups per day up 6 cups.

Who's right?

I started doing the 4 cups but I've been feeding her 4 times a day so she gets use to the extra food. The previous owner said to feed her twice a day.

RT, the right amount is the amount that your dog does well on. Your dogs may not have the same amount of physical activity the other guy's dogs have.
