I have 2 daughters 11 and 12 yr old who love the outdoors hunting and fishing. They decided to go with me and a friend to turn the dogs loose this past sunday. The dogs we were hunting was my 4yr old wlkr male and three other young dogs. They struck as soon as thet were unsnapped ran what sounded like a good track, just could not stick the tree.It was a school nite and the kids had to be home soon we started callin the dogs in and garmin showed them coming in. At about 75yrds the old dog stopped moving. I started walking in to him,i walked out on this gas well pad(its like a horse head pump)the garmin showed him near so i knew he had to be close,it was very not like him to not come in after he was that close.Checked both sides of the pad could not find him, walked around behind the pad and he was lying dead on the cement slab beside the well pump.I was dumdfounded, could not believe it.Lost my best dog to a well pump arm. Looked as though it started while he was under the long arms and caught him between the side of the structure and the well pump arms. Now i had to tell those 2 girls one of wich was trying out her b'day present a new 21 volt lite this very nite. So i called them on down and explained what i had found as best i could. They both were speechless even my buddies who were with us could not believe what we had found.Just thought this might be good info for ayone hunting around these gas wells. Ive hunted with dogs for almost 20yrs now and have never seen or heard anything like this. If i had not had a tracker on him i would have been in the same boat so many other hunters have been in woundering if their dog was still live or dead and not knowing what had happened. so take this info and let others know there are some strange things out there that can take your best dogs. FREAK ACCIDENT is all i could say.
sorry to hear,it hurts to loose one. ive lost a few to trains, cars, and fox poison sort of know how u feel.hope u got the girls to understand.again sorry for your lost .
