i took my bluetick out lastnight for a little training session. well he went out and didnt come back. i waited at the drop spot for an hour and a half. called and called his name lol. 11:30 rolled around and i had to study for a chem test and class started at 8 tomorrow morning. so i threw my jacket on the ground and came back in the morning. my blue was balled up on the coat waiting to be picked up.

an old timer i hunt with told me about using a jacket. just figure i would let other young hunter about this trick. before gps's and tracking systems all there was were coats to find hounds!

That's funny you put that on there, it's true indeed that if you have had the dog for awhile and it knows your scent you can leave anything with your scent and i'd say 80 percent of the time they'll be there in the mornin. Will get you some sleep at night and a peace of mind boys!

ps, i'm 14 and new to this and don't have a dog but have witnessed this work~

It is nice to have one of those Old wives tales work out. I know exactly how you feel. i have no GPS and get worried when i dont hear my hound or if i know he's gotten in DEEP. I've recently had to slow my hunting because recently my blue dog struck out and he was too far out to hear me b4 i knew it. I called for em for about 45 min, then spent another 45 waiting for him to get back. Just about the only thing you can do is try to train your dog to return whether he's on a digital collar or not. Good luck and Happy Hunting

That the way that we always did it back when I first started out. And there was no doubt about it that it works.

Its funny how things, simple things, get forgotten in the world of technology.

Couldn't agree more. You can leave anything but one thing that is a sure bet is to leave your box if your on private property or if you got a lock and chain. Just leave the box open, done it plenty of times and it works every time.

I agree also on the way technology has changed things, if you ask me it is to pricy any more just have faith in your dogs and hope if someone finds em that they are kind hearted enuff to call you up.

It is always odd to me the people who run dogs worth 100s to 1000s of $$ but won't spend 450 on a garmin. I wouldn't turn a dog loose without a tracking collar on all of them anymore. The good old days are just, the old days.
