Hi, it is late {3:30 am} and we went out tonight and had a good hunt, in fact the hounds are still out in the woods. I took my horn to let them know where I was and we went towards the north, then to the creek, then down stream and all over the woods. Ending up at the Coon Creek Camp. I built a fire and hung out a while the dogs had treed 5 possums by then, but now, were way across the creek and down stream farther than I have been in 20 years. Way down stream near 'Head Lake'. They were running a track for an hour up and down the creek and I let them know I was across the creek by blowing on my horn. We tried and tried but I never got a definite tree bark to make me want to wade across the creek. I found a gravel bar, a shallow place I could have crossed but they just did not sound 'sure enough' for me to want to walk home with wet boots.
It was a great night however. The dogs got tons of practice, {Sandy knows what a coon is and one day will tree one to show young Dukedog.} I got tons of exercise and learned a lot about the woods and don't have to skin, flesh and stretch a $2. coon hide tomorrow or clean my gun either!
So that is the story of mine, Sandymay's and Dukedogs latest hunt. There are still the same number of coon to train the dogs on and I am getting back in shape too after barely surviving 4 murder attempts in the last 10 years, but that's another story.
Thank you...♪
