I had my 3.5 month old mountain cur out today and he found a den tree and jumped up on the tree and started to howl. When he was done howling he tried to dig at the base of the tree. Is this good or bad?

It's good his instinct is there but starting this pup this young could possibly greater your chances of ruining him in the long run. I never like to start hunting a pup or training hard until 8 months. He could pick up some nasty habits.
