I took my dog out for a hunt tonight in our usual location. She is use to hunting alone and typically does a fine job at it but for some reason she refused to get out of my sight. Right before we crossed the creek it looked like she was winding something. All of the sudden she began to look all around in a frantic motion. She immediately turned around and made a dash back to the truck abandoning me. Does anyone have any idea what could have startled her?

Are some dogs afraid of bears? I have noticed that bears frequent the area.

I had a dog tuck tail and run over a fresh Mountian lion track. But I agree with them saying bear is very likely.

It was a SQUATCH!!!!!! Hahaha just kidding. I was watching them clowns on that finding Bigfoot show and they had me rolling especially that one super squirrely fella with the long hair and wears a hat and it looks like a one of them Halloween redneck costume parts. But on a similar note not too long ago my self, my brother, and two of my friends were out hunting and just shot a fairly good sized coon out of the tree and during the process of skinning it the dogs looked out away from us and started growling and barking. We shined our lights several times in different directions and couldn't see anything. obviously the dogs knew something was out there that we couldn't see. I am reckoning it was prolly coyotes. Round here they have a habit of coming in to trees after we leave and getting their chow on. But in your case it could of been coyotes, bear, or even a Squatch ( I ain't saying there is no way they don't exist cause with my luck I will run into one the next time I am out hunting and get my @$$ beat ). Dogs are like people though and get spooked sometimes it happens to every one.

I know how you feel buddy I have 3 redbones two of them are 3 and a 1 yr old pup, and they are my babys next to my 4 boys of course, but if I was to watch or have that happen to my dogs I,m not sure what I would do. all 3 of my dogs are house dogs so it would be like losing a family member.

if y'all can shoot bear at night i think that would have been a good time to fill a tag. If you had a gun with you that would have done the job that is. sorry for your loss, its always hard to loose a dog. i have personally never seen dogs get spooked by a bear, that bein said though we run bear and all our dogs except my new pup have been on them so its hard to say what a dog would do if they have never ran one.

There's a black bear hitting on one of our coon feeders, and it seems to never bother our dogs any.
