This is my first ever hound he is a redbone and were in the process of training him he shows alot of potential for his age i think and as of right now he is trailing the coon hide to the tree and getting on the tree

good luck for with your first coonhound! for a 4 1/2 old pup to start trailing and finding the tree, that is a good sign of a good hunting dog! good luck!:)

Just time in the woods is the best for him right now, when he gets older about 6 or 9 months old you could show him a cage coon, but it all depends on how confidant your pup is, if your pup really goes crazy on a cage coon you should put the cage up a tree and see if it will tree, but time in the woods is the best for him now, and using the coon hide is something that you should keep doing for him.

Thanks for the help i feel like he is very confident i have been around hounds for probable six or seven years but this is my first one that i have owned though but one of my buddies has been around hounds all his life and he thinks that the dog looks really confident and has great potential so i guess we will wait and see

He is now 6 months old and is making good strides were getting ready to get him his first live coon
