My 10 month old female blue tick treed her first coon last night. This is my first coon dog so I have been very worried she would not turn out (everyone kept telling me that not all dogs make coon dogs). She has been having problems going out very far she was max go out 50 yards so someone told me just take her out and sit on the tailgate I knew this would be boring but I wanted my pup to get every chance she could. So after a hour of her doing her same old thing she trotted off about 120 yds in the woods and after checking a few trees in the area she treed I'm pretty sure the coon had been in the tree since we got there so it was a cold trail but I'm very proud of my puppy I wouldnt trade anything for that moment I just hope there is many more to come!

Congrats!! I'm having the same problem with my pup now, only going about 50 yards out. Think I'm just gunna sit in the woods for a while with her and see if she will go out farther

according to the tracking collar she has went out 523 yards by herself...then when shes heading back she strikes and trees...maybe its just the puppy in her?

I dont really see a problem with that some dogs just go in straight lines and others do circles i guess if you wanted to change the way she hunts maybe hunt her with another dog that hunts the way you like.
