Introducing "Rambler", my wife's 8 month old Mt. Cur house dog. He treed his first coon on a squirrel hunt on 2/2/13 am.

Unfortunately, this was the highlight of the hunt. A buddy and I hunted till 11:00 and killed 2 coons, 2 squirrels, and treed 5 den trees! It was a good day anyway. Rambler will be 8 months old this week. He has been getting out and hunting around since he was 5 months. He has a ton of drive and hunts hard. He has treed several squirrels and runs track on coons with my other dog. Until Saturday, he would rear up on the tree and sometime whine a little, but would not get on the tree and hammer down on a squirrel or a coon. This was a layup coon that was denned in a hollow, rotten snag about 14 ft off the ground but out of sight. I guess the scent was so strong that it pushed Rambler over the edge.

We were hunting down the side of this shallow brake and I noticed him out away from my other dog, working around this dry knoll out in the water. I called for him to come on and he ran about halfway to me and then turned around and ran back to the little patch of dry ground out there and reared up on this snag. This is what he has been doing for a few weeks when he trees but I haven't been able to get him to bark. When I had waded about halfway out there to him he reared back up on the snag and started jamming. The closer I got the harder he treed. Music to my ears. He is still just a puppy but I knew it was just a matter of time before he was going to make a tree dog.

Here are a few pics. Thanks for looking.
