hi i wana see other peoples guesses here. i was just out playing with the fox pro call playing the fawn cries, about midnight, partly cloudy night in north central minnesota in a maybe 10 acre open field surrounded by woods (pine and popple) with a swamp on one side. i was calling maybe 3 minutes when i heard something crunchng comng closer so i grabbed my gun and held still listening. all of a sudden it sounded like an elephant. for real like the way they scream or whatever it is and the foot steps sounded huge after it took off into the woods. after it started making all that noise it made me jump a little and reach for my light and by then it wasnt anywhere id be able to see it but it was running off still making that crazy noise with foot steps that sounded like big truck tires bouncing through the woods. i know my description of what it sounded like sucks but does anybody have a clue? ive heard of people having does come in to check on fawn in distress cries but it sure didnt sound like that. or coyote whch was what i was after anyway. just didnt sound like anything ive ever heard before.. any ideas? thanks

Probably a deer blowing and stomping, may have been trying to draw you away from a fawn?? Or it was Big Foot!

lol.. I think sometimes when your in the woods alone sounds can be amplified. I was out last night with my two Plotts & had a beagle/jack Russell tagging along. I was in real heavy brush chopping my way to the dogs & the little terroir mix came bustin' threw shaking brush & startled the crap out of me. He made enough noise that sounded like something huge was coming threw. After I saw him zooming by my feet , I had to chuckle at myself.

 It's funny how some things will startle people. I was standing in the road light off one night after moving around in the truck to a spot to better hear the hounds, when all of a sudden something at my feet hissed and spit and took off in the dark, like to pi$$ed myself (Darn big fury black cat) I think we both freaked. LOL

Last year me and my father were sitting on the back porch after dark when we heard a devilish shrill coming from the other side of our pond we later figured out that it was a bobcat hunting maybe that's what you heard

Somebody here suggested maybe a bear but don't they usually have a real strong smell? I didn't get anything that night and it was pretty good conditions for smells to carry and it was sooo close to me...? And I've never heard of bear making sounds like that either. The feet crunching yes but the vocal noises I don't think so. What kind of noise do they make when they get scared though? Anybody know?
