Post subject: | What defines a good hunt? |
Well last nights hunt wasn't what anybody would refer to as a great hunt. I loaded up Bruiser and Ruby- both 2 year old redbones, and met my ole buddy Willie (He gets up the hills faster that any other 74 year old I know!) and his 3 year old Black n tan Otis. 1 drop- "treed" a coon in a barn under some lumber 2nd drop- old cold track to a big leafy tree- circle or slick?? We will never know! 3rd drop- Feeder track in a field with 3 hounds going 3 directions... I went to bruiser because he was treeing but something didnt sound right. He was 20 feet up in a leaning tree, and the Black and tan got to the tree just before me and was headed up the tree when I grabbed him. Well Bruiser really wanted the coon so I had to shimmy up the tree and grab him. I had him down to 10-12 feet when we got off-balance and I had to let him go or I would fall:( He landed on his feet and was trying to go back! Glad he didn't get hurt! 4th drop- quick track with Bruiser and Otis slamming a huge den tree at the same time We called it a night at 1 AM- The moral of this story? Any night you and your hounds come back home in good shape is a good hunt! |
