here is what ive got to work soo far. but not field tested yet.
putting them out tonite. this is a rock candy reciepe.

4 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
put all into a pan and bring to a boil. useing a candy thermometer bring to 300 deg. about 20 to 30 min.

at this point put in what ever you want.
ive used 1 qt of cracked corn or 1 qt of corn/dog food ground up. the key is only 1 qt per mix.
it will make a 2 qt block.
im trying some with 1 spoon full of peanut butter now. we will see if it works.
ok after i got it to 300 deg i added 1 big spoon of peanut butter. stirred it till it melted and added my corn.it worked out great. it hardened just fine and it taste like peanut butter.
i was wrong on the amount it makes, as it turns out the receipe above makes about 1 1/2 qts

has anyone tryed this yet??????

This works I just added vanilla extract about a table spoon and 1 cup of dog food and bingo just let it harden for 12 hours and go stick it on a tree.

molasses, corn, and a portland cement, works great, no cooking of the molasses. I could never get it to harden by cooking it and it always burnt. cement worked great for hardening not sure how long it will last though.

I've found molasses/corn game feed blocks for around $7 each, they are the size and shape of a salt block.

Am I reading this correctly that if a feller uses molasses from a livestock feed store it is not working but molasses for human consumption does work??

Bob,

Those blocks we cant get all over the place in WI. Most bait shops some hardware stores, fleet farm, gander mountain, etc. Anywhere that sells sporting goods or animal feed usally. You could sawzall that block into chunks and run a double sided lag bolt into it.

Guys I don't coon hunt much, but them bandits love my bear baits. In fact I couldn't use them blocks cuz the bear would snatch them in no time. Maybe after it got cold? The coons really like the toppings for ice cream. Especially strawberry, and peach. My best bear bait is taco chips with 1/2qt of peach toppings on it. Yummy!! We get it for $7 a 5 gal bucket. I have had as many as 6 coons trying to push the rock off the bait. They also love gummy bears, choc cherries, fruit loops, and pie fillings.
