ok i tried my first batch this morning and it didnt turn out very well at all

it was still soft

i think i added too much corn

i used a candy thermometer to keep up with my temps i heated it up to 240 for about 10 mins and then added corn to it and keep the heat at about 230 for another 10 mins
i poured the mixture into small cups and placed them into the freezer to cool down 2 hours later they was still mushy as if i had just pu them into the freezer

i used feed grade mollases and cracked corn

after all was said and done i tasted the stuff it was very biter and stunk to all he&@

the mollases didnt tatste like the coon fusion when i tatsted it straight out of the bottle i was using could this be my problem??

do i need to get it hotter?
do i need to buy diff mollases??
do i need to use yeast??

i can use any help yall are willing to give----either that or somebody come get all this cracked corn i got on the porch :D
thanks mel

My brother owns a feed mill and I get it from him, but I still haven't gotten this stuff to get hard yet. I may be using the wrong kind.

Wouldn't any game want this? I'm thinking that bear would love it. I'm only a coon guy so I'm probably not gonna try it. I'll stick to sour corn.

(and no its not a personal problem)
i looked on the web and found a reciepe for hard rock candy. just tryed a batch. i'll let you know how it turns out.
do we need the yeast to make it hard?im getting it up to 300 deg.
it feels hard but when i hang it from a bolt, after 30 min. it drops off.

someone on here has to know how they make this stuff. please tell us.

I made one batch that wouldn't harden. All of the corn stuck to the bottom. Next batch I cooked on 275 for 20 minutes and it looked like a huge black cow pie. It hardened but doesn't look, or smell anything like coon fusion. I've had it out on a tree for over a week, no pictures with a game camera and the dogs haven't struck anywhere near it yet. I guess I will keep experimenting.

here is what ive got to work soo far. but not field tested yet.
putting them out tonite. this is a rock candy reciepe.

4 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
put all into a pan and bring to a boil. useing a candy thermometer bring to 300 deg. about 20 to 30 min.

at this point put in what ever you want.
ive used 1 qt of cracked corn or 1 qt of corn/dog food ground up. the key is only 1 qt per mix.
it will make a 2 qt block.
im trying some with 1 spoon full of peanut butter now. we will see if it works.
ok after i got it to 300 deg i added 1 big spoon of peanut butter. stirred it till it melted and added my corn.it worked out great. it hardened just fine and it taste like peanut butter.
i was wrong on the amount it makes, as it turns out the receipe above makes about 1 1/2 qts

has anyone tryed this yet??????

A method of, and apparatus for making hard, dense, vitreous molasses-based animal feed supplement masses, the method comprising heating a molasses composition to a temperature within the range of about 240.degree. F. to about 285.degree. F. to remove all of the water content of the molasses that is necessary to form the desired vitreous masses. A portion of the heating process may be accompanied by an injection of ambient air into the molasses composition being heated. Immediately after heating, the molasses composition is cooled, agitated and de-aerated by directing the molasses composition through a cooler and de-aerator including a conduit in which is positioned an offset beater shaft assembly adapted to separate portions of the composition from the remainder thereof while directing cooling air through the conduit about said portions. After cooling, other animal feed supplements may be mixed with the molasses composition by a utilization of a variable pitch ribbon mixer-auger, further cooled, containerized, and allowed to cure into hard, dense, vitreous masses.
