Not sure this is general enough so it may get moved but...

Just wondered how many here are hams. Also are you using your HT's to as tracker receivers?

I'm a ham . Just got back into hunting after a long break. Not sure how the HT would work maybe you could tell me. That would be cool if I could figure out how that would work.

I am a HAM, KF4YGW. I have looked into using HAM freq. for tracking, but the main problem I ran into was the fact that all of the tracking collars won't transmit on any freq. that my HTs will receive. You can get a collar that is made for overseas that will be picked-up by a 1.25M (222MHz) radio, which I would have no other use for besides tracking and the collar is still outside of the actual amateur freq. range so its not really legal either... I'm just going to either get a regular tracker or one of the new Garmin GPS units.

KB2VZA here....... The tracking collars sends out a CW type pulse, and that would be a problem with most HTs. If I were you I would go with a conventional tracker, or GPS tracking. I personally have used everything that I sell. If you need help with systems drop me a PM I will be glad to do all I can for you.

Most HT's do not have a BFO circuit in them so you would not here the beep that is produce by the type receiver that has the BFO circuit .
