i knew better but i had to have it too. glad others in my group decided to wait. other than the antennaes breaking all the time the system itself is amazing. i bought the magnet mount antennae which would pick up the collar easily if the collar antennae broke. no more looking for lost dogs, dogs running a backtrack, whatever the issue, you know instantly what's goin on. also bought the updated software/sd chip. well worth the 100 bones. i barely pull it out of my bibs coonhuntin and for fox, coyote and cat you can keep those young dogs in the race and off the deer. we'll see how they did on this new collar but it looks like they did it right. if so i'll let you guys know. i never got a real range test on the old collar dogs never got more than 1.5 away from me. pumped up for round 2 and fresh snow.

I read an article about the new collars, but I can't remember where now!!

Anyway, the long and short of it was that Garmin is listening to what WE have to say. They based all of the changes on the feedback, both good and bad, that they were getting from the users. It's nice to know that some companies still do that. I know that it is in their best interest, but at least they take the time to listen to the people who keep them in business.

I talked with a lady in the warranty dept. today at Garmin, I had a collar replaced under warranty, and she said the new collars are supposed to be released to dealers on Aug. 20th, I have one on order also, but this was my first dealings with Garmin and their warranty dept. and they were first class all the way, no repair, they sent me a new collar, the old style mind you, but thats what I had bought originally, totally satisfied with Garmin, and yes she did say they had took alot of input from coon hunters like us about the new design collars, so yes they are listening to us, thanks Garmin for a great product, I am spoiled, I dont hunt without mine, it has led me back to the truck a many a nite and directly to the dogs also time and again, just my 2 cents worth, Paul Gladden

I also bought a garmin a couple months ago. I didn't know about the new collars either, but I did know of a couple solutions to some of the problems. I took 2 plastic zip tyes & put at the bottom of the antina & a 16oz. counter weight on the collar. I live in West Virginia & the coon hunting can get pretty rough sometimes, it's steep, we have alot of clear cuts & alot of woven wire fences & knock on wood I haven't had any trouble yet. Maybe this would help some of you that are having trouble. I know some of you will think a 16oz. counter weight is to heavy but think about it if a dog can't carry 1 pound it will probably never make it on a good coon race.

The old collars (DC20s) are passed the counterweights as an easier fix has been available for awhile with them now.

You can buy a radio collar style antenna and drop the counterweight off now if you plan on using the DC20's.

They also make and sell aluminum base plates as well for the DC20's.

I seen a dealer on another forum post this yesterday:

Quote:
The Garmin Astro Dc-30 units should ship to me by next Tuesday but the DC-30 Collars alone or extra Collars will not ship out till about Sept. 5 But should have the complete units by the end of next week.

I wonder if an unusually high number of preorders is the cause of the delay.

I got a shipping verification from UPS. I don't know if it's for just the Astro bundle or for the bundle and extra collars.

Let you guys know when when I get it on the 28th.

Tim
