Please use this topic to advise of any problems they know of Garmin fixing or new products you heard about or used.

I recently got of the phone with Garmin and they told me the older astro 220's can only handle up to about a 25 watt radio in close range. They said they found this problem and all the new Astros have a beefed up board now that will handle up to around 50 watts.

This is the answer to the problem people were having with loss of range. They also said all the remanufactured units sent out in the future will also have this fix.

I think only those of us that Bear Cat and deer hunt use cb radios enough to damage the unit.

I talked to someone that deals closely with garmin and they said a new unit will be coming out next year has anyone heard anything.

I see some new accessories and wonder how good they work could someone comment on the new folding antenna and does anyone know how to put a bigger screen on the astro.
all the remanurfactured un

I notice a lot of Garmin Astro units for sale on this forum. It seems that with such a new system you would not have that high of a turnover.

I have had my Quick track system for over 12 years and still use it every outing. I run both Garmin and Quick track collars because the Garmin some times will lose signal or if I get a split race one dog may be out of Garmin’s range by the time I can get up with him.

Does anyone know if Garmin has any competition? That does not require cell towers.

Does anyone know of a better gps unit that does not use cell towers.

I checked out a few and there is just not enough info on them to make a good decision without talking with someone that ownes one.
