So i have a 5 year old walker hound that takes at least 5 trees to get down to business. He will hit a hot or cold track and then just stop in the middle of a field and bark. We have had dead coons in front of him and he tears them apart. Im tryng everything to get him to stop. Any suggestions?

Free dogs usually have bad faults.Thats why most are free...If you want to try working with him thats OK. Give him a few months and see if he gets better. If not Id look for another dog before Kill season..

Most 5 year old dogs have already been worked on cage coon. That could be part of the dogs problem. Most dogs that have been worked a lot on cage coon thats more than 2-3 times. Can get so they have to see a coon to show interest like treeing. They have to see a coon to tree....This might be a dog that someone else has tryed everything they could think of.Then gave up on him......I wouldnt put a lot of time in him .If he does not get any better...Most good treedogs are naturals and dont need a lot of work to get them treeing...I will put time into a dog that trees coon..

Leave him in the box....turn coon lose....let him find the coon with his nose....shoot coon out..thats the only way i see a caged coon doing a five year old any good.

dont shoot a coon out to him unless he trees on it, and make sure its not a sal coon that you release to hunt, kill the boar.....

Personally I would say u just have a babbling dog. Sounds like he still isn't 100 percent on wat he should be doing. Wat I would do is get a shock collar take a cage coon out and turn the coon loose in 1 of ur favorite spots. The go ride around for 15 or 20 min and come back. Keep the dog on ur lead. And basically checkcord him into the trail from about 150 to 200 yrds out if he opens b4 u 100 percent positive he's on the trail LIGHT HIM UP. When u get to the trail and he opens praise him up real well and let him work the track to the tree when he trees praise him uo again but not to much that can also add to the being tree crazy. Shoot the coon to him. I bet a cpl times of that and u will see a different dog. That's wat I would try. Its not gonna hurt anything by trying it

I think he released the dog too quick.the scent was still in the air and not settled on the ground and the only place the could smell the coon is in the air.ive always had to wait bout 15-20 mins like the other guy said go riding around or something.i mean come on 5 y/o should be gettin it done.
