Bad idea..Rabbits are more active at night...Better off starting a dog on squirrels...Because they climb trees.House cats are also a bad Idea because they can get a dog killed by there owners. We had that happen opening night this year with a buddys new dog..Good thing he had a lighted dog collar on the dog..Treed a cat in a guys front yard..The guy was a good sport and called us on a cell phone...LOL...

Just wondering, some of the oldtimers around here said if you could get a dog to run rabbit track then looking up slick trees will be a thing of the past. I've got some Tennessee redbacks that I am planning on turning lose in a big fenced in ball park a couple of times and let the pups chase it then turn them lose in the wild and do the same with a coon a few times and then break the pups off another released rabbit with the tri-tronics. I beleive this tactic might work, I'm just trying to try something different with my pups. I have three and neather has yet to see a live coon but have been messed with on a hide.

I took my three eight month old pups to the local baseball field today where I could close them up inside the fence. One by one I turned a rabbit lose then leashed a pup and let it watch the rabbit hop around LOL. I then turned the pups lose one by one and watching those pups chasing the dodging rabbits was really funny and intertaining. One even caught a rabbit corse I was able to get it away before she killed it. I only wished I had done this when the pups were three or four months old......

The best dog I ever had was started on rabbits. She was only 4 months old and she'd start trailing rabbits while our older dog was trailing a coon. One night she straightened out a track and put a tree on it. After that first coon, to my knowledge she never run another rabbit. Best track dog I've ever been in the woods with.
