I have a 3 1/2 year old walker female real good dog hamers on the tree proly a 110 barks a min but most of the time when you get about 60 yards from her she just shuts up and sits there and will wine a little. Any ideas on how to get her to keep barking?

Might try knocking some out to her or just stand next to her for a while and when she barks rub her up real good

It seems to me a smart dog will do this more than a average dog will..They cant wait to get ahold of the coon and just shut up when they see you coming...Try chaining her back and letting other dogs get ahold of the coon first.Or dont let her get the coon at all for a while....That seems to help a dog like this alot..

We had a walker dog that we bought off an Amish family when I was growing up. He would hammer down until you got to the tree and then he would shut up and sit bout 20 feet away just looking up in the air. Come to find out, the Amish boys would climb the tree and poke it out to him, so he was sitting back looking for the coon to jump out. I didnt mind it though, because he would tree hard until you got to the tree. Except for competition hunts, in my opinion that's a pretty good trait in a dog. I think it shows his smarts.

Dogs figure out all sorts of things in typical everyday doings. You may never realize your training them. A lot of hide hunters dogs do this. They get a lot of coon once you get there you shoot they shut up they get coon just a basic thing a lot of hounds do this. I wouldn't frone apone any hound that does it. I have a neighbor that shoots every coon in the tree. His dog does tree hard does good for few mins then shuts up he runs around tree looking for coon a lot of times he's got it found before you get there. I frone on his cause he doesn't care if your 50yd or mile.
