Post subject:  Dog wont hunt with strangers!!

Well 2 months ago I bought an old dog. It took hunting my male dog with her for 2 weeks before he would tree or let her tree with him. If he treed and she backed him up, he would leave and go back hunting or come back to the truck. Well im wanting to enter him in some comp hunts just to learn for myself and because he's a good dog. I hunted him with a buddy's male dog and same thing. He's extremely independent and hunts good with company. That he's use too that is. How can I correct this if I decide to enter him in some hunts if he doesn't like hunting with a new dog in the crowd? Any suggestions would be helpful.

To do good in Night hunts. You have to have a dog thats stays put on trees..If not your not doing to do any good at all...This dog might never be a good night hunt dog..You need to hunt him with as many strange dogs as possible .To see if he gets any better.Theres nothing wrong with a independent dog as long as they stay treed...If you want to learn about night hunts.Id say the best way is just going alone on some hunts to learn the ropes first...You could join a club and hunt some club hunts also..Most clubs have about 1-2 of those a month...The old dog you bought might be a better dog for the hunts..You just need a well broke dog that runs and trees and stays put..
