I got a 15 month old English hound that I just bought and he will run a great track and is a great tree dog but when I come to the tree he will leave. The other dogs will stay treed but he will run away and don't want me to catch him. When I do catch him he acts like he is scared to death. I even tie him up at the tree and he will just sit there and shake all over with his tail between his legs. It's like he goes into a panic at the tree but once we leave he is fine. I have never abused this dog but I'm afraid his pervious owner may have. Does anyone have any tips that I can try to fix this problem. He is a good young hound except for this one problem. Thanks

sounds like somebody has over whipped him off slicks or some thing or he is gun shy and knows when you come in you have the gun.
how does he act if you roll the coon, will he jump on it when it hits the ground?
bout all I can think of is to just be patient with him, tie him at the tree or maybe tie him back off the tree and go about what you normally do at the tree. hopefully get him over what ever has him freaked out.
might try going in with your light out.
I know im stating the obvious but what ever his problem is he associates it with the hunter coming into the tree.

He won't have nothing to do with the coon when it's shot out. When I get to the tree he just panics and is done with it all. It's just crazy cause he will run and tree by himself and have the coon everytime but after I get there he freaks out and is completely done with it.

its gonna take a lot of patience and even more patience if he is hard to catch when you get in there.
I would check him during the day and see if he is gun shy. id see how he acts when he sees you with the gun of when you shoot. a gun shy dog will often act scared long before you ever shoot the coon. they know whats coming and they don't like it. but I'm just guessing that could be the problem. don't know, but its all I got for ya.

Sounds like he is afraid of the coon itself coming down out of the tree.
