I have a 2 year old female who gets struck quick and can run a pretty good track, however based on how she runs and what the Garmin shows it seems like she gets close to the end of a track and constantly works that area rarely treeing and usually comes off that track after some time and goes and works a different track. She seems fairly accurate when she does tree but even then she constantly likes to backtrack 20 yards and work it back to the tree like she is checking herself. I imagine knocking some out to her would do wonders, but therein lies the problem...if she won't tree I can't shoot one out. Does anybody have any advice on how to help her gain confidence towards the end of the track and on the tree?

Having an another dog go with her a few times would probably help her out.It would at least give you a chance to shoot one out on her.

All young hounds are not the same. But try to keep her from back tracking as much as you can another thing you can do is hunt her with a solid old hound not ill or fussie in any way . If they, and only if they run a track together and the older hound trees and has the meat tie her back about twenty feet from where the coon will hit the ground. let the older hound have the coon but not the young hound. If you are not harvesting the coon for fur or meat then take the dead coon and stuff it in a hole in the ground cover it with leaves then walk the young hound enough so she don't go back. See if this helps, if not post your reply on here and we will go to step-2.

When she starts circling an area like that get in there and find out what exactly is going on. If the coon is sitting there just kinda walk her by that tree and see if she'll stand on it. If she does then pet her up and encourage her to tree. If she's working the tracks by herself hunting her with an older hound may not make a difference. Get her to do it on her own and that will make her more confident.
