Any advice or tips here would be greatly appreciated, i got a 3 1/2 year old walker male, guy tells me he is good belly up tree dog just does not have a loud mouth(my fault here for not trialing him before purchase but got him with a pup) i have taken the dog 3 times hunting, first night after it had rained for 2 days and turned real foggy after the rain, dog goes off leash and strikes a track about 150yds out, runs the track for about an hour and half before i finally had enough and went and retrieved him, 2nd night out before a front comes in with rain walked
To several different areas, struck a track near a creek ran it for about 3-5 mins broke off and never opened again, third night about 75 degrees during day and clear 55 at night, dog
Strikes on one track did nothing with it, walked
To another spot on the edge of the creek bed, keep in mind the dog will go about 300 yds in search of a track, he strikes a track runs it for about 150yds in about 15-20 mins, stops and runs back and basically quits the track again, the tracks were coon becasue there are buckets in the area, anyone know of anything to try?? I have no idea what is going on... And a tid bit i showed the pup a caged coon the other day after his the first night the 3 1/2 year old went nuts over it so i believe he is a coon dog just not understanding what is
Going on.

Just my opinion but get a coon in a trap and run short drags and tie the coon up in a tree. Being a short simple track you will see whether or not he will tree at all. From here get more complicated with your tracks. Once he suits you doing this show him the caged coon one night and start dragging it as you have been. Once you are out of sight cut the coon loose and see if he will still get it done. Got a few going this way and works pretty well for me. Hope it helps.

JUST a guess the 3 yr old runs trash and the other guy has already given up on him...You can keep hunting him until he trees. If he does them you might be able to fix him..Hunt him a few more times and if he does not tree.Id be looking for a new dog..I wouldn't hunt pups with him

Took him last night with a good female, both got on a track, once they treed i let him sit for about 5 mins, he never left the tree and was a dam good looking tree dog with a steady chop, 2 coons at the top, will take him again by himself, not sure if he needed a confidence boost or he is a me too dog, thanks for the replies.
