I have a 4 month old b&t that I want to train to run bobcats and lions. My wife has 4 cats around the house, and I was wondering if being around all of these housecats would mess her up? I also have an older dog that would kill a cat if given a chance, but the pup shows no interest.
Any advise would help, Thanks,
Trae

Shouldn't hurt at all. I raise a lot of hound pups here at the house. They get along with the cats. Then they start training and things change. After that they have to be moved to the kennels for the cats safety. I use my wifes house cats for a lot of pre training. Old Lewy has started many a cat dog in his day LOL.

Good question trae dupree! I have been wondering that exact same thing. I have a 9 week old pup and she "trees" (up into the kitchen chair) my daughters cat at least twice a day! I get a good laugh out of it every time.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid I would ruin the dog by bringing her in the house around all of these cats. I only bring her in when it's really cold out.
Thanks again,
Trae

I was told today that I am ruining my hounds. My wife has three house cats that have become out of the house cats. He told me he used to keep a goat in the pen with his rabbit dogs to keep them from running deer. He said that the dogs being exposed to the cats all the time will make them turn away from coon. Has anyone else ever heard this?

Thanks for clearing that up. Ive been worried all day about that. Ive never had rabbit dogs or goats so I wasnt sure. All my grown dogs seem to hate the cats. Atleast the cats are smart enough to stay away from them. Id told my wife that if I found out that it really does work like that, the cats would be finding themselves a new home tommarow. Im not gonna risk ruining my dogs. Good to know though......

my dad told me one time, he knew a guy that bought a couple pups. he kept them in the kennels and just around the corner he keep live COONS. he said the dogs payed no interest to coons when he started trying to train them, dogs even wanted to play with the rsacals. not very smart. cats on the other hand, sister always had em ,dads always put GRNITECH on his dogs ped too.

My dog lives in the same house as a cat. They are separated for the cat's safety, but they see/sniff each other through a screen door. Only loss of interest in hunting that has occurred is my dog ignored a ferral cat he met rather than treeing it

One thing I learned about 40 years ago..Dont mess with house cats if you want a ((strait coonhound))...I started dogs on cats and learned that most dogs. Will tree on a house cat a lot harder than a coon if started on them..House cats will also get you in trouble if you hunt close to houses...I dont know how many times. I got a dog off a porch with a cat climbing up a screen door...Or killed or treed a cat in a yard...So no more house cats for me...LOL
