had a buddy that had a beautiful bluetick. he was just points away from a nite championship. was a show champ to. he had ran a bobcat when he was younger, and we broke him of that... so we thought. we went out on a pleasure hunt on some private land. we had just broke timber when he let out on track. after an hour of walking and holding up the tracker we couldnt figure out where he was. we couldnt hear him treeing but he had opened on a track long before. so we went back to the edge of the field and started callin again. trying to track but the signal was in and out. about 10 mins later we heard him squalin and yelpin hurt about 50 yds from us. we found him stuck head first in a hole. he ran a cat right into a hole got stuck and the cat clawed the sh** outta his throat killed him. as soon as we pulled him out to see he was dead out came the cat. wasnt a big one but he had the advantage as blu had no room to fight back. was very sad to have to carry a dog out back to the truck and go hame and bury him. Now when i train pups one of the very first things i work with them on is hole treein'. they will do no such thing. trained a dog that would run and tree perfect. i had trained her not to hole. we were hunting one night had another dog with me. i heard her open up then short after she was choppin a tree up, but i came to her she was treed on a hole. but not in the hole. she was 3 feet from it wouldnt go a step closer because she knew i would buss the hell outta her haha. its vital that you teach your dog this because i wouldnt ever want to have to carry one of my own out of the woods.
