Ruger, Browning or Smith Wesson? I am thinking about getting one to carry in running season, and to teach my family how to shoot hand guns. There is alot of difference in price so which is best overall?

Well, every review I have ever read says that they are about in performance and useability although each of them have their own feel. I like the feel of the Browning and I seem to have a harder time taking apart of Ruger, but honestly, I'd take any of them.

I have the ruger with the 5.5 inch bull barrel. I cant say anything about the others since I have never shot one but I know that I can hit anything I aim at with my ruger. Accuracy is superb in this gun. I can also hit horse dropings at 100 yds away with it, thats pretty cool. It also has adjustable sights wich is really nice.

all the ones you mentioned are good guns but my choice is the ruger its most commonaly the cheapest but you just about can not wear it out mines had about 20000 rounds through it and still shoots good and the only breakage its had is the release button for the clip so if you try it and it feels good to you but it but you cant go wrong with any of them

I also can't say much about the Browning or S&W as I've never shot them, but I've got a Ruger 22/45 and can hit anything with it. Very accurate gun.

Hey Cobia, I just thought I'd throw this out there... I'm a BIG ruger fan as far as pistols go... But I bought a Walther P22 last year.. and it is one of the funnest pistols to shoot.. It's real accurate and pretty inexpensive... you may be able to pick up a used one.. which is what I did. They're more compact than any other general brands... first walther I've ever owned.. I'll always have this one. You might want to look into it... I carry it for coons.

I have a S&W 22A with a red dot on it.Have several buddies with the ruger auto.Only real diiferance between them is the ruger is more accuret at longer ranges. But at normal coon nshooting distance cant see much differance between them

I always liked the Mk III. They are just plain great to shoot. One of these days I'll get one for myself...

I have used a singlesix Ruger for a long time now I highly recommend it for a first handgun you can .22lr and .22mag cylinder for them and being a single action they are a little safer also a very durable pistol no semi auto jam ups with bad shells some of the guys I hunt with have the Berretta Neos semi auto seem to be a good gun at excellant price

As usual, I guess I'm the black sheep. I have a Browning Buckmark, and I love it. I picked mine up for about $300 brand new and put a BSA red dot on it. As the others have said, I don't think you would find enough difference in performance to make a choice. I put my hands on all of them, and the Browning felt the best, so I went with it. I am now dying for one of those Taurus .17 HMR revolvers that's made like the Raging Bull. I also would like to get my hands on a Ruger Charger, but I think it would be a little heavy for toting around.
