Hands down the best of the best floor
I have 3 kennels with this floor and it is great!! I would not have to think twice about putting it in another kennel. I have raised two pups on this floor

bark collar... sooner or later he will have to.
try putting a piece of wood , plywood or what ever about 1 ft wide and close to the same length of the pen. kinda like a walk way, once he is more use to the pen you can remove it. untill then just flip the plank over every couple days if he sh#ts on it.
if he uses his house for a bathroom, feed him in his doghouse. if that dont work to stop that, build a sub ceiling so he cant stand up or hump up to go in the house.
one dog i have is a left leg hiker, he would stand outside and wizz into the dog house through the doorway. i finally put the doorway on the front right side of the house insted of the front left side. he still pees on the house but it dont go into the house.

don't know really. maybe with the floor like you said with 1 x 4's set closer, but you would have to clean it often once themamma stops cleaning them.. maybe a piece of plywood the full size of the pen floor.set on top of the rails that you could clean off. then pull it out when the pups are bigger.

I just built a new kennel and used 5/4 treated decking boards. I didnt leave a gap in between them cause I didnt want all the dog mess under my kennel. I wash it out every day anyways so it doesnt even smell like a dog pen. but I do have one dog per 6x12 bay so they have plenty of space

I have mine on concrete but a buddy of mine has his off the ground and has a green coated wire floor in it...think he got it at either tractor supply or somewhere simmilar. the holes in it are 1/2" square. He raises a litter from time to time and has pre cut plywood for when pups get big enough to get out and explore...works great and after a few weeks their feet are too bit to get caught.

i have kept rabbit dogs in them before. i used the same size , but i knew i would be using them for big hounds on and off too.
the cost is what you make it. scrap wood and used fence is cheap to free. just depends on what you want to put in them.
i have made them for bunny dogs with a dog house on each end and a divider in the middle with 2 side doors too.
hopes this gives you some ideas to work with.
