 Probably a dumb question, what is the downside to just letting the hide dry out without tanning? Is a tanned fur just softer? And does it mean if you don't tan it, it won't last?
Thanks for the help,
Austin T.

well the downside of not tanning is bugs:( but you can spray the hide which will keep them away. tanning will make the hide soft as a blanket but it will last a long time if you dont tan it they make good wall hangers. we have too small muskrat and coon and beaver hides stretched an dried in the garage i sprayed them with "off" and there still bug free and hang up on the wall. bout 5 yrs old now. hope this helps
