What would I use to hold the smaller wire to the trap? I thought of using zip ties but i would think the coon might gnaw through them.

They won't chew zipties i have an old trap that the coons have tore the hogrings off or they just came aprt, i put a few zipties on there and it works as good as anyother

I WAS HAVING SAME PROBLEMS PUT A TRAIL CAM ON IT AND FOUND OUT IT WAS RATS DOING IT NOT COONS....... I STARTED HANGING A METAL CAN FROM THE TOP IN THE BACK OF CAGE WITH A PEICE OF WIRE AND YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE TO OPEN SARDINES UP THROW EM IN THE BACK UNOPENED THEY WILL FIND THEM AND ONCE IN THE TRAP THEY WILL HELP THEM SELFS AND OPEN THEM UP..... THAT STOPS CATS AN POSSUMS FROM EATING YOUR BAIT IF U CATCH THEM......I MAINLY PUT MARSHMELLOWS IN MY TRAPS!

I used marsh mellows as bait and stick 1 or 2 in front of the trap and 1 in the entrance. they are cheap and if you get them a little warm they stick together well so they wont come through the side of the cage. best bait i have used to catch coon and i dont get many off game catches.
