I want to build a flat bed for my 1987 nissan extended cab 4x4. I have never done this but was wondering what size tubing is used. I was thinking of using 1" sq tubing for the side rails and angle iron for the frame. I have know clue what im doing. I am putting a 2" body lift and 31's on in the next few weeks, and was going to bolt my dog box to the bed. make it my all around truck. can any of you guys and girls out there give me some pointers of what you done when you did yours. i dont want it to be really heavy.

I would save the money and headache and just build a flat bed out of wood.

lol you would make a flat bed made totally out of wood ? use wood for your floor ( used motor oil is what we use on haywagons and grain truck floors works great to seal the wood )

I make alot of beds for toyotas, I make the majority of my beds 70"x75". I use 2" peewee channel for my frame (the four sides), and you can use most anything for the runners underneath the steel plate. I personally turn the channel with the groove out so you can mount small lights in the bed if you want and they are protected. Headache rack I use whatever I have the most of at the time, 1" or 2" square tubing and doll it up how you like. make a dove tail on the back to mount you tail lights in(aftermarket at walmart) and do not forget the tag light, you will get pulled over. It is real easy to do, takes more time to clean it and paint it when you are done. Good luck
