with gas so high, ive thinking about a way to save a little. like getting a smaller motor cycle and pulling a homemade trailer with dogbox on it. it'd be one of a kind. i'd get a lot of stairs but i might save on gas. i used to belong to bicycle club and some would put trailers on their bikes and bring their kids along for a ride. that's where i got the idea. what do you think?

Where I hunt you need a 4x4..................especially after all the rain we just got.

I think the idea is cool, but actually doing it not a good idea.

i almost always hunt in a national forest. they do not allow anything on the roads there except regestered vehecles and bicycles. motorized vehecles must stay on the improved dirt roads. so there is no rough terrain to deal with. we don't have harsh winters, i only take one or two dogs and the few valuables can be secured in somekind of safe space built into the trailer.

I saw a gentleman on the Alaska Highway with a plywood/aluminum "camper" pulled by a big old hog. Big enough for him to sleep in crammed and some gear. We leaped frogged each other for a while. He seemed to haul it just fine. I worry for the safety of my dogs though. You can get a metal folding crate large enough to fit two dogs in it into the back of a 99 Saturn SL2 if you unfold it inside the car. 35mgp beats 18 mpg in a heartbeat for trips to the training pen and any longer trips out of the area to hunt. Get a medium size bike (650 or up). use a two wheel trailer. with a fairing it wouldn't be too cool, and you would feel warmer when you stop. Although it would be downright cold if you get wet and the temp is anything below 60. wet dirt roads would be a special situation. You can do it if you want to. put working tail, stop and turn lights on the dog box! Let us know if you try it. would like to see pictures. 8)

To get any kind of traction & stability on the dirt roads you would have to have dirt bike tires, Dirt bike tires are illegial on most majior highways. Good luck if you try it, but I have rode a street bike on dirt roads many times getting to a friends house & it was NO FUN. Mike

maybe you should just get a motorcycle with a sidecar and let the hounds ride in that. : ) you can use a harness and seatbelt to keep them from going hunting at will...

You could possibly be onto something. The first thing that came to mind when reading this post was the Honda Ruckus. The Ruckus is basically an all terrain moped. It's a bare framed utility bike that can achieve speeds of between 30 and 40 and are legal to drive on roadways. This might not be enough power to pull anything behind it though. But there is a Ruckus 2 that is twice the size of the original with more cc's. It is a 2 seater. Not sure if these have the capability of pulling some sort of a dog box. It would depend greatly on the material and how the trailer would be built. Other considerations are the area you live in and what kind of roadways you have to deal with. It would be tough, but you have a good idea.

i would just look for a 2wd truck if your hunting any where a street bike will go. if your going somewhere kinda rough then a motor cycle wouldnt work any ways.
