Yea More air flow will increase fuel economy but on the other hand it wont change mileage from say 15 to 20.. Not something I'd just go spending a grand on ha im thinking about strapping a box on back of my bicycle if gas keeps goin up! hope this helps a little

There are alot of things you can do to make a vehicle get better gas mileage, the biggest question is, since most are very expensive, is the one- time cost worth the amount saved on fuel? I mean, you can put higher gears in the axle(s), but it's very expensive, especially in a 4 wheel drive, but then it won't pull as well. A K&N filter will maybe give you 1 or 2 mpg, but it cost 50 or 60 bucks on the frontside. I'd say a chip or reprogrammer is the best bet- most vehicles come from the factory capable of ALOT more than the stock configurations show, and a "chip" will let more out.

I would stay away from the open air filters. From an engineering stand point they will not work and will cost you much power and fuel. I have tested them in many vehicles and also have had to fix many vehicles that had them on for customers. Very few vehicles it helps on. intake and exhaust mods can very easily be overdone and you lose backpressure. If that happens you will lose much power and burn to much fuel. The chips just adjust timing and injector curve. No magic. Now if you have a diesel them you can get some great benifits from for many mods. Anytime you deviate from 14.7 you will not get optimal burn.

The best fuel economy return from a bolt on part for me was cat back exhaust. It cost nearly $500 and only made 1 or 2 mpg difference. However, the improved rumble out of the tail pipes makes it work every nickel.

On the flip side, I put a Flowmaster cat-back on my '06 z71 w/ the 5.3 and the computer says my mileage actually dropped from an average of 18.4 to 18.2. The sound is worth it, though.

I cut the stock muffler off my D-50 and put a glass pack on and it went up 3 miles to the gallon and helped the power alot... but needless to say I won't be sneaking up on anything
