2001 chevy S10 4x4. goes into 4 wheel low ,but will not go into 4 wheel high. servo motor is working and the button panel has been replaced . where is the control module for the 4x4 funtion located, ? anyone had a similar problem that was something other then one of these three parts. i believe the button panel, the servo motor and the control module are the only three parts of the system.push 4 wheel high and the lights on the button panel flash and it goes back to 2 wheel drive. push 4 wheel low and it goes to 4 wheel low and works fine. push 4 wheel high and it flashes and goes back to 2 wheel drive again.hubs are locking in just fine and the servo motor is shifting in the transfer case but only to 4 wheel low,and back to 2 wheel drive.seems as though it is skipping past 4 wheel high.....thanks.............TC

I have a 98 S-10 and have a similar prob. It will lock in fine but won't unlock, it just clicks. I know on mine you have to jack with it a million times and push and push the clutch then finally it will go. I don't know what to do.

i think on the 1998 the control is located under the battery, runs off vacume,a voes (-vacume operated electric switch-)that one is not hard to change.around 2000 they changed to all electric.
hey toecutter i wasnt sure if yours was the vacuum or electronic. if it is all electronic their is a sensor built into the motor assembly on the t-case. that sensor will go bad and will not work correctly and will do funny stuff intermitently. in a pinch i have taken the motor off and just moved the sensor back and forth and put it back on for people and it worked for a little while. not a long term fix, but could give you an idea if thats your problem.
i am not sure without looking at a diagram where the control module is. probably under the dash near the steering column if it has a seperate module. s-10s do not have hubs to lock in or out. there is an actuator in the front end to kick the front end in or out.
these systems have trouble from the controls down, but from my experience the problem is in the motor assembly because it sits underneath the vehicle exposed. gotta love them junk electronics.
good luck.

i disconnected the battery and let the computer reset.now it works just fine, i don't know for how long but its working ok now. strange just plain strange.i would take the old manual locking hubs and a transfer case with a shifter any day over this electric crap.got a 98 harley w/electronic fuel injection i've been working on . it had a bad set of intake seals and was sucking air. i changed the seals and then the engine light kept coming on ,so i did the same with that, disconnected the bat for awhile, low and behold now it appears to be fixed too. must have been the comp. was still showing a vacume leak.my customer is happy and now i can send him down the road too. been fixing sheeatt all day by disconnecting the batteries.kind of funny, the harley dealers send me the old knuckle heads and pan heads, shovel heads and evo's and i send them the new twinky's-- (twin cam motors).i see em as the weakest harley motor ever built............thanks for your imput,........TC
