i have a 79 chevy with 38.5's on it. it has a 8 inch spring lift with 3/4 ton axles. when i drive down the road it will ride like a cadillac then all of a sudden it will start bouncin. one time it almost threw me out the window. I replaced the steering stabilizer shock and it quit 4 a while but is starting to do it again. I belive I need a dual steering stabilzer but what do you think it could be?

Does the driveline feel like it's jerking or is it in the steering wheel?

im not real sure, i aint drove it in a while but it feels like a tire is coming off. i dont think its in the steering wheel.

sounds like it could be death wobble. what speed does it start at?
check the obvious stuff if you haven't already: alignment, tire balance, ball joints
it could also be incorrect castor, worn tie rod, worn drag link, or oversized shackles (if theyre not stock)

some of those trucks when lifted break the frame around steering box the frame isn't strong enough for the extra stress there used to be a kit to fix this how long has the lift been installed when I lifted my old Ford I had to tighten u-bolts once in awhile for first few months until everything was seated could also check crossmember mount all of these are after checking the obvious

The old chevy frames are notorious for cracking around the steering box. I doubt that's your problem, but if it's cracked you ought to fix it. There are some good bolt on and weld in kits for the frame repair. Offroad Design makes some solid ones.

its not the frame, But do you know where i can get them wedges for under the leaf springs?

i got it running the other day and took it down the road. it starts wigglin when the speedo hits 35 but i dont know how far off it is. lol Its not to bad till i start slowing down, then it starts to get worse.

I had a 79 chevy done the same thing 40 super swapers checked every thing it was the tires the belts was busted changed the front tires cured it.

10-4 on the death wobble. I just finished a blazer on 44's that had it something awful. Check the ball joints,tie rod ends,tire balance and front end alignment. With that much meat, you shouldn't have ANY play in the tie rod ends or ball joints.There actually is no such thing as a 3/4 ton Chevy front end. It's either a 10 bolt or dana 44 (half ton axles) with 8 lug rotors, and they don't much care for bigger aggressive tires.If you know of a tire shop that does it, you may also get your tires checked for roundness. Swampers are notorious for getting funny shaped.

I had it on an old ford. Replaced the ball joints on the steering rod and added steering stabilizers. The dual steering stabilizers and panhard bar kept the tires from pulling against each other.

10-4 on the swampers being funny shaped. My buddy had the same problem his driver side tire would wobble and shake and about pull the truck off the road. We thought of everything but what it was, was the wheel bearin was shreddin to pieces. after we fixed the wheel bearin the shakin stopped. i dont know if thats you problem or not but its worth takin a look at. Also check you drag link and your pitman arms.
