i own an 88 chevy short box step side with a tbi 350 v8 and i wanna make it sound like the most badass unit on the road. im running a dnyomax race bullet with out cats in 2.5" right now but i heard choping the Y pipe and and putting a muffler on each side would make it sould like it had headers. i need idea's for the best sounding mufflers or glass packs. ive had flowmaster cherry bomb and dyno max "mufflers" and so far i dont mind the sound of the dynomax race bullet but i want something that sounds better and louder haha

thanks for any advice or info

You need to go to 3" pipes the bigger the pipe the more that wonderful v8 sound can echo around.

I gotta 94 Z71 and it's sometimes too loud. But anybody around will tell you that is the loudest nastiest sounding truck around. I got headman headers with 2" straight pipes for back pressure and crimped a little over the crossmember to give a little more back pressure.

I'll tell ya what I think sounds the best. Put ya a set of the cherry bomb glass packs on it and let it run for a while to get it nice and hot. Once they get hot, run a water hose up your pipe just far enough to get up to the muffler and turn the water on so that it breaks the glass. Once that glass breaks and you get goin down the road that glass will start bouncing around in the muffler.
You wanna talk about something that will rattle your eardrums...

Let me tell you FROM EXPERIENCE, this little trick does work, but once you spray the water in, get the heck out of the way- that super-heated water is gonna come back out, and it will be under pressure and HOT. I spent a night at the ER with 3rd degree liquid burns over my neck, chest, and stomach from it.

I've only done it once and when I did it I ran the hose up the pipe and then went and turned the hose on to keep that from happening.

nothing sounds like headers but headers stick with pipe no bigger than 2.5'' any bigger you will start to lose low end power unless you have a high horsepower engine over 400 horse 2'' pipe will make a sharper sound with snap to it true dual exhaust is best I like Moroso spiral flow mufflers they look like glasspack's at idle they sound like a 3/4 burned out glasspack wide open they're about like straight pipes

if you are runnin a 350 get two and a half inch pipe from motor back and put some 3 inch tips at the end. when you run the pipe out angle it 45 degrees back and 45 degrees down, it looks BA and angleing the pipes down makes the sound echo off the ground makin it even louder. but the 2 1/2 inch pipe will make that 350 sound real deep and the tips will make it even deeper but havin straights will make it scream. dont do none of that y pipe crap its a waste of a welding rod and money.
