The only thing I know about coon hunting is what I've read. I didnt know if anybody had any pointers or was in the Grand Rapids, MI area and could give some tips. Two of my friends bought blue ticks a few months before me and we would like to run them together but i want him to learn he right way before let a bunch of pups loose together. Thanks for any help Dave

yes, do it right and train your dog alone. Walk with Wick books are good and there is a ton of info on this website. Bottom line is you need to spend time with your dog in the woods. You can help yourself and put some coon feeders in the woods. When I trained my two, I started with draggin a fresh road kill coon. tie a rope around it and have your pup chase it. I stuck it in the freezer between play sessions. I than laid drags w/ it and had my pup follow the drag. After that, I caught a couple in a live trap and laid some drags with that. Than, let the coon go and have him trail it. Always, lay the drags with your dog out of sight. You don't need him to see what you're doing. After that, just start hittin the woods and see what happens. Good luck to ya, it's a fun sport!

Hello! I'm not really a coon hunter but I have 2 coonhounds that showed up on my porch a month ago.
(edit) I can't keep them and just got a call from someone who wants them! yay! I'm hoping this time it works out.

The season is upon us. I am in Montague, about 30-45mins north west of grand rapids. I have two one year old red bones. Looking to get out as much as possible. Anyone looking for some company?
