My dog hasn't treed a coon in the past five or six times we have been out. Can I just assume that the heat and everything being so dry is making hunting bad, or should I really be concerned that my dog has lost his ability for some reason? I will not claim that my dog is the best in the woods, but in the past he has almost always put up a coon every time we go out.

Anyone else in North East Texas having any luck?

I believe that the heat may have a lot to do with it. I know a lot of people won't hunt out of season because they don't want their dogs to overheat. Just an opinion. May not be accurate but I would be careful hunting in the summer anyways.

I hunt the mornings for it is much cooler. I am still treeing an average of 3 coons per outing and am hunting two young dogs that just turned 2 on 7/15. I have found that a good dog will adapt to the conditions and tree game. We have had over 90 days of 100+ temps and no rain in nearly 5 months and it was dry before that. These dogs can take dry or they can take wind and still perform but they cannot take extreme dry and wind at the same time.
Adios,
Gary
