I'm new to coon hunting. I've taken my pup out to White Slough WA a few times. He's done well out there, most of the coons we've come across take to the water. Not a big problem but there is so much crap in the water (hyacinth and what not), my dogs been having a hard time with the chase. I'd like to get him on some coons without so much water around. Any recommendations on where to go? Thanks |

Hi I have been having the same problem as you. It is hard to find places to hunt around here.I am also new to coon hunting. Are you pretty successful going to white slough? It seems like it is a giant wetland there so it doesn't seem like there would be any trees to tree a coon in. |

White Slough is tough. There aren't many trees. And the coons know what they are doing. As soon as the chase starts they get into the thick, boggy stuff and then into trees that are right in the middle of that stuff. I've spent quite a bit of time getting my dog out of the boggy stuff, so I'm really hoping I can find some where (public or private) with less water! I just don't know where else to go... |

Have u guys tried going around and asking people who own land if u can hunt? Its time consuming and a lot of miles and can b frustrating but if u can get a few good chunks to hunt it is worth it. Make sure to dress decent and bring your manners. Offer to work or if u have good deer hunting property offer a trade if they deer hunt. Most people are nice and the worst they say is no. Bringing a pretty girl along doesn't hurt either

I've been looking at more wildlife areas. Both Heenan Lake WA and Red Lake WA allows hunting for all legal species, even though it seems like a more popular area for fishing. Just wondering if by any chance you have gone there and if either of them are any good for hunting coon. |

Bltck61483, thanks for the tip. You are right about the time it takes to talk farmers/landowners. But I should get out there, its probably my best bet. Coonhoundnick, I haven't been to either of those WA's. Sorry. I'm going to Cache WA/BLM land. Last time I was there I (about a year ago) saw a bunch of coon scat. Hopefully we'll see some coon this time! |
