I havent hunted any blue dogs before and I recently got a female. Shes a good dog but she dont leave in a dead run and get gone like my walkers do. She kinda hunts out in semi circles progresively farther away. Is that how most blue dogs hunt or is it just her.

Sounds like you got yourself a good dog.I'm telling you will find more coons with a dog like that. She'll find coons that the walker missed because he left in a dead run.

That's exactly how our female hunts. She can get the night started out fast and on a good note like that. Like Glynn said, the other dogs blow past and end up coming back to her most of the time.

it all depends on your coon population and what you like. Some folks like to allways be able to shine there light on the dog. Other folks like their dog to hunt extremely deep. Dogs that hunt in little semi circles like that are convinced there is a coon track close by and are determined to find it (even if there wrong lol). If there is a track that close then good. If not then you ain't treeing a coon. So your coon population will determine whats good an whats bad and what the outcome is.

but as far as breeds go. The #1 reason i hunt a walker dog is because I like the way they hunt and there determination and energy. Some blueticks I have seen are good hunters but most I have been around are super lazy. But that's just what i have seen.
