What cross could produce solid black hounds? I'm interested in much more than hunting. Had a July when i was a kid and always wanted a black hound. I like the real dark reds too - looking kinda burnt. Wonder if one of those crossed with dark plott would do the trick or would you have to work in some lab blood. How many generations would take to develop this strain. Thanks.

Plotts that are solid black, have had other stuff added during the last 65 years!!! Look at old plott pictures.

If you want solid black hounds cross with Black Lab. It will work!!!!!

When they said on more breeding buckskin colored plots back into the breed there got to be alot of black plotts and you couldn't see any brindle not evan in the sun light. Now you can use buckskins it keeps them brindle. so look around there is black plotts out there. I wouldn't mix lab in because they are known for bad hips.
