so are you guys telling me that back in the day they didn't have lighter faster shorter eared dogs. I am just wondering about the term "old fashioned" maybe I don't get it because I am 6'4" with big ears, little on the heavy side, and slow as hell! Call me "old fashion"(folks could probably only see in fuzzy black and white back then too)
back in the day (20s and 30s) they were slower then dirt against walkers blue dogs etc etc so they started crossing them to get faster hounds.....

It is my belief that these type of dogs doesn't exist anymore! Everyone is breeding the medium nosed, tree crazy hounds that other breeds are notorious for producing! Please tell me that the more bloodhoundy black and tans of yesteryear are still around somewhere. I personally own two registered dogs that are top notch bred by todays standards but they lack the grit and ability to tough an old track out and have the meat majority of the time!Super nice dogs when coons are feeding but, I hunt beaver ponds and super thick timber. We used to hunt an old pleasure hound (Black and Tan), didn't even know his breeding. His ears drug the ground and by his looks you would've thought he was the laziest thing around. Come nightfall you could consistently tree coons in the same conditions as my hounds today, but they won't hold a candle to Ole Bo! Anybody know what I'm talking bout? Talk it over with me fellows! Input, breeders will all be appreciated!

im at work and dont have his papers with me. he' wynn bred on bottom, got fiddlers masterpiece in his 4th i believe.. he's just an old blood behind the barn hound. never was pushed in the hunts. i bought him off an old man (my uncle) who always has a hardcore hound but never puts em in the hunts. he had him for 2 years and he dont keep junk lol.

Nice looking hounds, but I remember seeing Black dogs years ago that had 28 inch ear spands. Anyone have hounds like that anymore. I have a Blueticks that have 24 and 25 inch ear spands and they are longer than most blues of today.

This is an "old fashioned black and tan" He is mostly off the Maple Hill Farm dogs, 80lbs at 16mths old and his ears and 18" long. Super smart hound sometimes too much for his own good. Has one hell of a nose though. We dumped a dead coon off 15 acres away the house and my boy who usually never left the yard alone went and found the damn thing. Gave me a heart attack when I noticed him missing because we have bad dog theiving in our area.

What is his total ear span? If you hold both ears straight out to each size what is the total measurement ear tip to ear tip?
