i build mine out of 2x4's and a piece of plywood with indoor outdoor carpeting on it. i would say if u had to buy all the wood and carpeting u might have 15 dollars in it..i built mine out of scrap i had around the house. the ukc standard for benches is....The bench on which the dogs shall be shown must be two (2) feet high and eighteen (18) inches wide with the top covered with indoor/outdoor carpeting or some similar non-slip surface. Individual benches of a minimum length of 44 inches are recommended. If the benches do not meet these standards, the Judge shall still allow the show to be held, but should instruct the club to correct the problem and notify UKC that the benches do not meet the standards.
hope this helps.

it depends on the dog..and everybody has a different style..i like my front legs strait up and down and my back slightly back...i would put your dog up where you think it looks best and then take a marker and mark where the feet are. i wouldnt put up a board..u wont have a board or marks when u go to a bench show. good luck

Take a mental pic of what your dog looks like standing relaxed on the end of chain or in kennel and then take it to the bench the dog will move when he/she is not comfortable. Good Luck

Take Pop Bottle Caps.. and set your dog up.. and put them open side up under the feet that your dog is slacking on.. That way.. you dont have anything on your bench for your next dog.. I saw a dog once that was trained with the wood slats on the bench.. and at every show he would look all over the bench for the slats.. he did horrible.. he was so worried where those slats were he paid no attention to the handler. Good Luck!!
